Rules and Regulations
Here are a few key regulations to be aware of - we received reports during the 2024-25 season of officials applying the incorrect regulations for the tier being played. It is therefore essential that all match officials apply the appropriate rules for the competition tier.
Men’s Tier 5 and below leagues and Conference Shield knockout competition
Women’s Tier 2 and below leagues and Conference Cup knockout competition
The Game On principles apply, as outlined in RUU 6.6 and RUU 10.6.
Men’s Tier 5 and below leagues and Conference Shield knockout competition
Women’s Tier 1 leagues and National Trophy knockout competition and below
All matches will be played under the Under-19 variations of the World Rugby scrum laws.
In England and Wales, teams may mutually agree in writing, signed by both captains and the referee, to play under the standard World Rugby scrum laws.
Further details can be found within the specific BUCS Rugby Union Regulations. However, it is essential that you officiate in accordance with the tier that is playing, as there are differing rules and variations across the tiers.
Reporting Behaviour
We greatly appreciate the time, professionalism, and commitment you dedicate to university rugby each week. Should you experience or witness any inappropriate behaviour or misconduct, please ensure this is reported in line with BUCS procedures outlined in the regulations.
