Funeral Arrangements

It was David’s wish that BLACK IS TO BE AVOIDED at the funeral (Club blazers excepted) and it be a celebration of his life.

Monday 1st October 12noon All Saints Church Rainford WA11 8HD

Followed by St Helens Crematorium WA10 6DF (optional)

After the Church/Crem service Refreshments for all (including a ‘Cottam’s HotPot’, his favourite) will be available at Liverpool St Helens, Moss Lane Ground WA11 7PL

I would be pleased to see those who wish to attend and sincerely thank all those who have sent condolences and kept me in their thoughts.

We are saddened to learn that David Matthews, one of our long serving members of the Society has passed away.

Dave was long time member of Liverpool St Helens (1965 to 2018), was the President of Lancashire County RFU for 2014/15.

He was a popular and successful International Referee from 1992 to 1994 and was on the RFU List from 1982 to 2002, before combining local refereeing and Assistant Referee duties in the Premiership and Championship. He ultimately became a well-respected Television Match Official TMO from 2001 until 2012.

His links to grass roots rugby were strong and he was involved with developing referees until the very weekend he passed away. He had a knack for seeing through all the hype and getting to the point, no more so than in his Whistleblower section on LSH website.
